Comex Exhibition

The Comex exhibition gets more crowded every year. This year, I happened to pass by Suntec just as the show was going on and security had setup barricades to direct the human traffic and moved the taxi stand.

I am not a consumer, but, 4 years ago I was at Comex to assist in the Instalment Payment Plan loans to the IT purchasers for my then employer.

Not to miss out this time, I bought the Naughty Raymond Robot USB memory key. Its ears light up when plugged into a PC.

Hot Desking

No posts this week as I have been busy at work. Apart from the usual stuff, I had to attend meetings in other offices and training sessions that took up more time than it usually stipulates. I don't really have a taste for travelling during office hours as the ERP makes the trips cost more and travelling between office locations take up so much time unnecessarily. Hot Desking isn't so bad, given that I have been pretty lucky to find empty desks with Computer and Phones attached.

I couldn't believe it was the weekend already. Time passes so quickly when you have stuff to do. I only woke up at noon to make my first ebay sale. Then made my way to Orchard for lunch and shopping. Now that my office has introduced Casual Friday I need to beef up my denim wardrobe.

Trip to Desaru

Free vacation for me when my family plans one of these short weekend getaways. I went with my family to Desaru, a sleepy beach resort near Johor. Considering it was a beach vacation, I didn't get much sun except sitting in the car waiting to get past immigration. The problem when you get rooms with great views of the pool and beach, is that you never want to leave the air-conditioned comfort of the rooms. I brought my nephews for one stroll down the beach and that was it. We didn't even get into the pool.
While my brother and dad were busy with the triathlon, we made a trip to the fruit farm with the kids. A few plants and a few animals was good for whiling a couple of hours away. For dinner, we drove a little further out to a restaurant specializing in lobsters that came highly recommended by TV & magazine reviews. After breakfast, we made the journey back home. Luckily, the hotel serves a decent cup of coffee strong enough to keep you awake the whole day.

My Sister's Birthday

Given the current economy, my gifts have become more practical. This year around, I got my sister her usual skincare products, Lancome Lightening Face Masks. It's practical and I know she will use it.
I used to spend a lot of time & effort trying to figure out the perfect gift for each person, when I already know what it is they like best and will use the most. Needless to say, I will not get that and usually end up buying expensive white elephants.

National Day Draw

I got home just in time to catch the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony which was very well put together. Must have been a big budget production with the huge masses involved, elaborate costumes and sets. Loved the smiley face fireworks at the end of the ceremony. The $8 million draw results came out just after that. My office pool won $120. Which is fantastic considering all my other pools with family and friends didn't win anything at all.

Cupcake Contest Results

Judgement day @ office for the cupcake contest. My department's transportation themed entry with the ERP gantry and cupcakes with faces and fine signs, won runner's up. But, then again, we always get runner's up every year.

The winner, in a show of patriotism, had cupcakes arranged to look like the flag. Yup, those are 2 nutcrackers on either side.

Lazy Sunday

I spent half the day putting together a dinner menu for National Day only to scrap it when my brother informed me he had already booked hotel rooms near the Marina to view the fireworks. What a waste of time.

I spent the other half of the day reading the newspaper and eating. My mom and my maid like to cook on Sundays for some reason so there is always an abundance of food on the dining table (both bought and home-cooked) regardless of what time it is.

Jelly Hearts

My order of Jelly Hearts arrived today. My colleagues and I bulk our orders for free delivery to the office. It is cheesecake with a heart shape strawberry encased in strawberry jelly. I always see it at weddings, valentine's day etc. But, this is the first time I have placed an order (by phone only) for this lovely confection. Apparently, there is a bakery at Whitesands that sells it to walk-in customers. Still, that is too far for me. My dad thinks its a Japanese concept because of the impressive packaging (for a home business..).
